Aarhus’ first Champions League point: how the 25:25 draw unfolded

SAH Aarhus earned their first EHF Champions League point against Dinamo Bucuresti. See how the 25:25 draw developed and what it meant.
SAH Aarhus earned the first EHF Champions League point in club history on 17 September 2026, drawing 25:25 at home with Dinamo Bucuresti in the men’s 2026/27 group phase. It was also the Danish club’s first home match in the competition, according to the official EHF match review.
Andreas Rasmussen scored the final goal in the 57th minute. Neither side scored again, leaving each team with one point after two rounds.

How the draw developed
Aarhus led through the opening 22 minutes before Dinamo moved in front and reached half-time with a 15:14 advantage. The margin was three goals at 15:12 shortly before the interval, but otherwise neither team moved more than two clear during this closely contested match.
Aarhus recovered through Emil Lærke and Fredrik Olsson, eventually moving 22:19 ahead midway through the second half. Dinamo then responded through Danish left wing Mads Lenbroch. The visitors drew level and went ahead 24:23 before Aarhus produced the last equaliser. The sequence is recorded in the EHF’s match account.
The leading scorers show the teams’ contrasting finishing returns. Lærke led Aarhus with six goals from 13 shots. Dinamo’s Branko Vujović scored five from 12, while Lenbroch converted five of six. Lenbroch’s goals helped Dinamo erase the home side’s second-half advantage, but Rasmussen’s 25:25 goal ensured the comeback did not become an away win.
What the 50-goal total tells us
The match produced 50 combined goals, or 25 per team. That is below the rough modern benchmark of about 30 goals per side discussed in our guide to normal handball scores.
The total alone does not establish that the match was slow or dominated by defence. That would require possession counts and broader team shooting data. What the result does show is a tight finish with no scoring after Rasmussen’s equaliser in the 57th minute, despite both teams having further chances.
That scoreless closing stretch made the equaliser decisive. Aarhus avoided a second straight defeat but did not secure a first victory.
What the point meant in Group E
The 2026/27 men’s Champions League introduced a new structure: 24 clubs divided into six groups of four. Each team had six group matches, and the top two in each group advanced to the main round, making the opening phase unusually short. Those details are set out in the EHF’s introduction to the new format.
After round two, the official EHF standings listed Barça on four points, Montpellier on two, and both Dinamo and Aarhus on one. Aarhus were fourth on goal difference, but the draw kept them level with Dinamo rather than alone at the bottom.
The distinction is important: 25:25 delivered Aarhus’ first Champions League point, not their first win. It followed a 39:28 opening defeat at Barça and marked a historic result in the club’s first home appearance at this level.
